La hiperglucemia materna lleva a una situación de hiperglucemia e hiperinsulinismo fetal. Ambas situaciones crónicas tienen consecuencias en la vida fetal y en la vida adulta de estos niños. Esta demostrado que estos niños presentan una hipertrofia de todos los órganos excepto en sistema nervioso central y el timo. En los últimos años ha habido un incremento en el estudio de la medición del timo por ecografía como posible marcador de patología en estas situaciones de compromiso materno fetal. ABSTRACT. Maternal hyperglycemia may result in fetal hyperglycemia and hyperinsulinism. If those situations persist during pregnancy they will have consequences in both fetal and adult life of these children. It has been shown that these children develop hypertrophy of all their organs, except for the central nervous system and the thymus. Recently, thymus has been started to be measure by ultrasonography as a new marker for adverse fetal outcome in these situations
