Abstract

Expressive communication of emotions is a main component in music. Therefore, both learning of music expressivity and the intrinsic value of student’s emotional skills are pillars for general learning in musicians. Establishing improvements in learning in classroom is crucial for education and with this goal knowing conceptions about learning in the field of this work is relevant, given that it is one of the factors which could influence the learning process. Taking into account that Emotional Intelligence has proved a predictive value in different educational settings, this work aims to analyze the association between different conceptions about strategies for learning of music expressivity and Emotional Intelligence in an international sample of music Higher Education students. Results point out to a positive statistically significant association between Emotional Intelligence and two out of four learning strategies, regardless country and gender. This relationship suggests possible pedagogical actions.
