Abstract
The design of a new cryolathe that solves some of the actually existing lathe mechanicallimitations, by using a head-stock with a corneal holding system and by increasing the cutting radius, is presented. Our design is based on a Nissellathe, on the BKS vacuum corneal holding system and on the cryolathe of J, I. Barraquer. The mechanical characteristics of the cryolathe (maximum cutting radius 65 mm. concave, 15 mm. convexe) are presented, as well as its tolerance and a typical methodology of cutting, Our cryolathe allows to cut directly corneal lenses with the required final characteristics, decreasing the possible error sources and tractions.
