Abstract
This paper addresses the sensitive issue of the teaching about religions and beliefs by analyzing two recent decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. The Court establishes in these cases that compulsory courses are not sufficiently neutral; therefore, exemptions should be provided to students in order to protect the rights of parents to raise their children in accordance with their beliefs and to save the child¿s religious freedom from harm. What emerges from both decisions are general and sound principles about how to implement and teach these kind of courses without violating the freedom of religion and belief or undermining state competences on education.
