Doktor von der Universidad Complutense de Madrid mit der Dissertation Estudio de la actividad cromosférica en sistemas binarios 1995. unter der Leitung von Dr. María José Fernández Figueroa.

Senior researcher and since 2002 full time professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain, where he teaches several graduate courses of Astrophysics and a postgraduate course about Cool stars and Stellar Activity. From 1991 to 2002 was assistant professor at the same University. From 1997 to 1998 he held a postdoctoral position at the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics of The Pennsylvania State University, USA. He obtained his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University Complutense de Madrid, Spain, in January 1995. Stellar spectroscopist. Spectroscopic analysis of cool stars: spectral classification, stellar parameters, abundances, radial and rotational velocity determinations, Li abundance, and analysis of the optical chromospheric activity indicators. Interested in different kind of cool stars including pre-main sequence stars, members of young open clusters, single young rapid rotators, flare stars and chromospherically active binaries. Libraries of high and mid-resolution optical spectra of late-type stars (F, G, K and M field stars, from dwarfs to giants). Spectroscopic characterization of late-type stars members of young stellar kinematic groups (moving groups) and nearby young associations. Chemical tagging. Magnetic activity, stellar activity, chromosphere, corona. Solar-type stars, solar analogs, solar twins, cool stars, low-mass stars, substellar objets, brown dwarfs, extra solar planets, exoplanets, exoearths. M dwarfs. GES (Gaia-ESO Spectroscopic Survey). CARMENES (Calar Alto High-Resolution search for M dwarfs with Exoearths with Near-infrared and optical Échelle Spectrographs). DUNES (DUst around Nearby Stars).
