Abstract

The goal of this paper is to analyse coordination in cooperative agreements. To do this, we have adapted the information processing model especially in reference to the nature of the task -information processing requirements-, and in reference to the level of coordination and the coordination mechanisms -information processing capacity. We have contrasted it on a sample of international R&D agreements. The results have shown a high degree of coordination among partners and the use of a group range of coordination mechanisms with variable intensity and frequency, but a greater use of informal mechanisms in relation to formal mechanisms. Regarding to the relationships, we should point out the relationship and influence of the type of interdependence and the degree of incompatibility of partners' objectives in the degree of coordination as well as in the coordination mechanisms
