Resumen

A pesar de la importancia, actualidad y extensión de la estrategia de reestructuración de la cartera de negocios en empresas diversificadas en todo el mundo, existe una significativa escasez de estudios dentro del contexto corporativo español. Este trabajo parte de un modelo de análisis general de la reestructuración de la cartera de negocios bajo el enfoque basado en los recursos, y pretende aportar evidencias empíricas mediante el estudio en profundidad del caso del Grupo Uralita, empresa que ha desarrollado recientemente esta estrategia. Los resultados del estudio empírico, de carácter exploratorio, muestran, de acuerdo con los argumentos teóricos que se exponen en el trabajo, que la reestructuración permite corregir situaciones de exceso de diversificación de la cartera de negocios de la empresa que generan ineficiencias y destrucción de valor, posibilitando una explotación óptima de las competencias esenciales que conducen a una mejora de los resultados económicos y a la creación de valor en el mercado.
