Abstract

The Semantic Web is a set of technologies that are constantly evolving, a phenomenon that develops or extends the Web and aims to go a step further in information retrieval, one giant and living database which is a field of experimentation and testing humanities and journalism. The space designed to host HTMLdocuments has become the channel of access to information, content and data, but also the standard user interface between users and technology. There have been many technological advances that have allowed building the Semantic Web from different fields of knowledge such as software engineering, cybernetics, the science of information, documentation, artificial intelligence, mathematics or statistics. This paper aims to draw a conceptual map of the universe of knowledge that are encompassed in the Semantic Web to become a basis for a glimpse of the challenges and opportunities of the Semantic Web in specific fields, such as journalism. So I propose a six chapters structure along information society, the Web, HTML, networks, hardware and software and the Semantic Web itself. I have used a methodology that combines the historical chronicle, participant observation and life history which aims to approach this contemporary phenomenon for society to participate, a participation that should not be exempted for reflection and critical thinking. This paper seeks to serve as a basis for developing research that analyze or address epistemological, philosophical, ontological or other kind related to the Semantic Web.
