Resumen

Various genetic, biochemical and pharmacological pieces of evidence indicate that the endocannabinoid system could be linked to alcoholism. However, various aspects of this relationship remain not fully documented. The results presented during this doctoral thesis give new insights into this topic. This work focused on two fundamental issues concerning the relationship between the endocannabinoid system and alcoholism: (i) the effects of alcohol consumption on the biochemistry of the endocannabinoid system and (ii) the therapeutic potential of a direct pharmacological action on the endocannabinoid system, through the use of cannabinoid agonists or antagonists, in the treatment of alcoholism.
