This research is about Chinese youth entering the labour force after leaving the education system, taking into account the particularities of the Chinese labor market, especially its intense economic transformation through several decades. The study aims to identify problems linked to the difficulties young people currently face at their (first) work placement in a labour market that has experienced profound change under an economy in transition. Based on characteristics of the economy, the labor market and the education system in China, we are going to describe this reality using available statistical information and to explain reasons for these barriers. Once we have developed a minimal theoretical and methodological framework based on various general explanations of phenomena interpreted in the capitalist system such as development, the labor market, and education, we will address work placement of Chinese youth and describe and analyze the main aspects of economic developments and the labor market during the analysis period, 1978-2015. The conclusion finds that Chinese youth suffer serious difficulties when entering the labor market of the country, and if they do achieve this objective, they are forced to accept very precarious conditions.
