Abstract

Plasma-cell gingivitis is characterized by the presence of macular or exophytic, well-defined erythematous-oedematous gingival lesions, whose main pathologic feature is a polyclonal infiltration of plasma-cells in the subepithelial connective tissue. The descriptions of cases with similar clinical and pathologic features with extraoral involvement (genitals and upper aerodigestive tract) point the limitations of the classical name of this disorder and suggest the more descriptive term of "reactive mucous plasmacytosis".
