Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analize two periodontitis populations (rapidly progresive and chronic adult) assessing clinical and histological parameters and carring out a cellular mapping with immunohistochemical technique (T11, T4, TB, B. NK cells and Langerhans cells). 24 patients were selected according to well established clinical criteria (10 with AP and 14 with RPP) and were examined using clinical parameters such as plaque index, bleeding on probing, probing depth and attachment level. For histological assessement, a gingival biopsy was processed using immunohistochemical techniques. Results showed that clinically both types of periodontitis were very similar. (Probing depth: 5,98 ± 1,37 and 5,53 ± 1,64. Attachment level: 7,05 ± 0,79 and 7,37 ± 2,18). lmmunohistochemical results showed the presence of more cellularity in the RPP, with more quantity of B, NK and Langerhans cells, with more HLA-DR (+} activity. The AP had more quantity of T cells. This study suggests that RPP periodontal lesions were in a more advanced stage than AP sites. Therefore. this implies that patients with this kind of pathology have more tisular destruction at a younger age.
