Abstract

Intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation for cataract surgery is generally performed using biometrical measurements such as mean keratometry (Km) and axial length (AL), using several regression formulas to calculate IOL power to get the residual refraction in spherical equivalent (SE). Besides, the use of this SE for the prediction of the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UCDVA) could lead to misunderstandings due to the imprecision of the SE calculation and the cylinder interaction.Bicylindric Method involves IOL power calculation in each corneal astigmatism meridian, and perform vector analysis using pre-surgical corneal astigmatism and surgically induced astigmatism (SIA) to predict refractive outcomes in sphere, cylinder and axis.This work presents a new IOL power calculation method based on the use of both keratometry readings, steep and flat, to improve the reliability and precision of the prediction of refractive outcomes, as well as a numerical index that correlates the spherocylindrical refraction with the UCDVA...
