Abstract

The aim of this article is to rescue the films that were shown in Madrid's Residencia de Estudiantes in 1927-28. Luis Buñuel, who later became a film director, took to the residence French avant-garde films. This educational institution became one of the main points of reference to understand what has been called "The Silver Age of Spanish Culture". These film sessions were the first contact Spanish avant-garde artists had with films that were distributed outside the commercial circles. The article underlines the importance these films had to the most innovative Spanish writers and artists between the two Wars.
