Abstract

The professionalisation of journalism was a natural process that reached in 1970 its highest stage with the incorporation of these studies to the University, after 30 years of existence of Journalism Schools. Along all this time research and development of the scientific aspect that characterises also journalism has been worked. To say that journalism is a profession that only requires vocation, talent and inspiration is a fool and old fashioned statement appropriated for the last century, which does not fit the social responsibility that this professional activity implies. The Journalism Studies constitute today the only valid and legitimate way (and not the other two) which must warrant truly the education of professional journalists capable, competent, specialised, independent and conscious of the rights, obligations and duties of their own.
