Abstract

The object of this investigation is to analyze the impact of available and acceptable online videos in the Spanish pay television industry across different platforms and devices (computers, and tablet PCs, digital consoles, cell phones, PDAs, etc). The growth and availability of multi-media platforms has led to an atomization and fragmentation of the consumption of audiovisual content and, even worse, the loyalty of the viewers. The newest audiovisual stage is the Internet. With the internet, users can connect and access their favorite shows when they want, how they want and where they want, causing further fragmentation of audiovisual consumers and therefore online videos have become a new form of viewing on demand. For this reason, online videos represent a challenge for the pay television industry, but at the same time they also present the industry with the opportunity to reinvent and grow itself. The present investigation is to determine what will be the impact of the increasing availability and consumption of online videos on the Spanish pay television industry, from the point of view of the industry�s current business model. It aims to examine how the online video consumption of pay television customers does and will affect the pay television industry in the near future. It will also analyze the extent to which the current business model is affected and what pay television industries can and should do to meet this challenge.
