Résumé

New information and communication technologies applied to political communication anticipate a radical progress towards a much more participatory democracy.Yet, this electronic democracy does not always result in an authentic cyberdemocracy or deliberative democracy.Terrorist attacks of 11 March 2004 in Madrid have given rise to various theories on the traditional media influence on the resulting political events in contrast to the virtual media influence. This paper offers a combined interpretation of the role of both media types in the 11-M crisis and concludes that the democratic weakness of the Spanish political culture sustained electronic agitation instead of the enrichment of a clarifying debate.
