This article reviews current European audiovisual systems�which are traditionally sustained in the notion of public service�with respect to the social transformations of recent decades and the abstract typologies that have attempted to reveal its divergences. It aims to measure the influence and biases of European doctrines and question the suggestions made by the reformed national systems and the partial synchronizations with respect to the challenges of the Digital Age.
