Abstract

In this article a tour is made of the idea of the museum that we find in contemporary literature. In the references collected it is confirmed that the concept has changed little for almost 150 years. In most cases, the image of the museum is very personal, evocative and emotional as it has to do with memories, memory and nostalgia. The appellations are not usually very flattering, they allude to the old, the ruin, the neglect, the accumulation of useless objects, and the loss. Nevertheless, the concept is so rich in nuances and possibilities that in the pages of novels and autobiographies we find interesting interpretations, not only of the museum, but also of museology and museography. Currently, in these fields, the importance of the connection with the visitor is raised through the construction of stories that attract and engage him producing a memorable experience. Good literature certainly achieves this and can become an example for museums.
