Abstract

Unidad Editorial was the result of the acquisition of the largest Spanish specialised press group (Recoletos) in 2007 by Unedisa, the publisher of El Mundo, and Spanish subsidiary of the Italian leading publishing group RCS MediaGroup. The integration of these companies, formed the leading press group in our country, in both circulation and unique monthly users. Nevertheless, this leading position in the press sector has never come been commensurate with the increased economic profitability of the group. On the contrary, the insistence on expand into a mature market as the press, and the fact of had not given adequate attention to a more diversified model towards sectors such as the broadcasting and Internet, caused serious problems for profit and loss account. Thus, this paper seeks to explain as case study the limitations of the horizontal integrations in the written press sector
