Abstract

Curated by Catedratico in Paleontropography Juan Luis Arsuaga this exhibition presents the origin of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons in Spain. These Royal Colleges would be eventually germ current medical schools. The exhibition presents three major lines of discourse: first, the origin of contemporary anatomical studies in Spain, the second way in which these studies have influenced the design of our vision of the human body and its evolutionary history, very important are the sections devoted to obstetrics, language and walking; Finally the relationship of anatomy and art within the institution. The exhibition is composed by the funds of the most significant collections and museums in the Complutense University of Madrid. Among them point out the anatomical figures in wax XVIII of the Museum of Anatomy "Javier Puerta", among which is bound to emphasize the figure of "the mother", the bibliographic share from Marques de Valdecilla and academic drawings of the nineteenth belonging to the Library of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Another important aspect that the exhibition shows is the process of restoration and maintenance of anatomical waxes from eighteenth and especially on "the mother".
