Abstract

In the past few decades some successful companies have emerged which share a common feature: their business model is innovative with respect to other organizations in their sector. Therefore, this research aims to propose a holistic model that identifies the common elements in an innovative business model, and the relationships among them. This thesis performs an exploratory analysis, using the case method in order to gain insight into the knowledge of a sample of these successful organizations. It concludes with the proposition of a scheme that defines the business model innovation. It includes five main elements: an innovative value proposition, an innovative value chain, innovative processes, innovative resources and capacities, and an organizational culture of innovation. This model can be used, by both, new entrepreneurs and established organizations, to design and implement innovative successful business models.
