Abstract

Printing production in Seville in the second half of the seventeenth century has not been efficiently studied by any bibliographic work. This produces a little transited landscape which involves prejudices with respect to its literary fecundity and quality. It is in this context where the necessity of our study, which has been proposed as a doctoral thesis, appears. The fundamental objective of our thesis is the elaboration of a catalogue of poetic works printed in Seville between 1621 and 1700. With this repertory we intend to put some order into the bibliographical items, that is why we have contributed with new works, not identified before, and new hypotheses on authorship, datings, subject matter, etc. Like any other self-respecting work of typo-bibliography, our study will be accompanied by an introductory analysis that will show, through numbers and statistical data, the evolution of printing production in the seventeenth century. Among our goals we could not leave out an evaluation of the Sevillian patronage networks that were developed around the books and the examination of the circulation channels of printed poetry between 1621 and 1700, from the one-leaf pamphlet to the book.
