The author of this paper is coordinating a cataloguing project of 17th- and 18th-century villancico chapbooks ('pliegos de villancicos') preserved in a number of libraries and archives around the world - with the exception of those in the Biblioteca Nacional, Madrid, already catalogued. The result will be published by Edition Reichenberger (Kassel & Berlin). Owing to geographic dissemination of the sources (Spain, Europe, USA, Latin America), it appears that the most convenient and inexpensive way for producing the catalogue is to invite scholars who already work on these sources to contribute to the project. In order to allow a coherent result, a relational database has been design on Claris Filemaker Pro 4.0. Eachmember of the team will receive a copy of the database which will be returned to the coordinator when the cataloguing process of the relevant collection will be completed. This paper will address the specific problems as regards the application the international standards for description of ancient imprints (ISDB-a) as well as the database design. Special attention will be given to the way in which the preparation of both the cataloguing process, the web access and the book version have been unified in one single package. FileMaker Pro 4.0 was considered the most convenient software for this project owing to: 1) its simplicity and flexibility of use; 2) it is available for both MacOS and Windows platforms; 3) the program can be automated, so users only need to follow the instructions; 4) powerful printing features which allow excellent quality in the final output without needing to use DTP software; 5) excellent web publishing features; 6) low cost.
