Resumo

D. Juan del Rosal was one of the 2.000 recipients of financial aid from the “Junta para la Ampliación de Estudios”, which allowed Spanish university students and scholars to get trained in European universities. Del Rosal received his doctorate in February 1936 with a dissertation supervised by D. Luis Jiménez de Asúa. However, the "national uprising" made him become a member of Falange Española and fight for the "national" faction during the Civil War, first as provisional sub-lieutenant and then as lieutenant of the Army, being awarded with the Grand Cross of the Order of the German Eagle and several other military condecorations. After the Civil War, Del Rosal changed his way of understanding criminal law and began to follow the criteria of the German Nazism, demonstrating a deep admiration for Germany and being the best exponent of the Spanish National-Catholicism. Afterwards, as the regime of General Franco permitted a certain opening of the university during the 50's, Del Rosal abandoned the ideas of a National-Catholic criminal law and returned to propose a criminal law guided by liberal principles. He was a well-trained scholar and a devoted catholic.
