Abstract

In spite of the fact that the relevance of the exchange of printed materials, letters and pamphlets by the two factions involved in the _comuneros_ revolt is well known, very little attention has been given to the printing press as a tool used for propaganda, because it was thought that there were no printed testimonies. In this article I have been able to collect and describe ten documents that will contribute to better exemplify the role of the Castilean printed presses in the propaganda campaign used by the _comuneros_ and by the members of the Royal Council and their role in the development and manipulation of the public opinion in this matter. Through this research we present the corpus of _comunero_ printed materials with the aim to better describe their genre, to map their production and to examine the importance of the printed press as a propaganda tool used by the government.
