Abstract

This paper analyzes a group of texts compiled in Sixteenth-century poetic chapbooks where, under the structure of relación de sucesos, we find a humorous content, quite atypical for the solemnity of this genre. The variety of the corpus goes from a parody of the relación –showing its maturity for the moment, at the end of the 1500– to the account of fabliellas and short medieval stories hidden under the structure of truly happened sucesos or casos. From the study of this subgroup of fabliellas, and under the Medieval and Renaissance tales point of view, we can add new testimonies to the small Spanish corpus of Golden-Age independent tales. Besides, the analysis of its characteristics linked to the discourse, plot and motifs –including a storyline based on the women cheating, love triangle, the short extension of the tales and its form in verse–, force us to wonder if these tales could not be associated to a long and traditional narrative which would tie up with the universe of the French fabliaux.
