Abstract

This paper explores the influence that had the figure of Julio Cesar with the Roman army in the politics of the second French Empire, during which Napoleón III showed a great interest in the figure of the Roman dictator. Also, the result of the excavations carried out at Alesia between 1861 and 1867, as well as the further use that was held by the French Government of the ruins and the figure of Vercingetorix, analysed to build a French national identity against German nationalism.
