Resumen
The function of the gravestone and its inscription is to become a memorial in order to keep a nexus between the dead and the alive people. The function is always the same and so here we have the basic constitutive elements of the greek funerary epigrams: the names of the dead and his father, the place where he comes from and a reference to the memorial. Apart from those elements the authoress reviews all the others which have been developped from Homer to the Roman times.
