Resumen

The aim of this article is to offer an overview of the relations between salary iniquality, remuneration structure by educational levels, andthe composition of the salary-earning population. Forthis purpose, the surveys contained in the LIS data base are used, with uniform information for a large number of OECD countries. In the first section, we reviewthe main methodological aspects connected with the definition of salary and educational variables. We then go on to examine the main trends in the behaviour of salary distribution. To explain these, we analyze the changes in salary differences between the different educational groups and the way in which variations in thecomposition of the job supply have been able to affect them, Lasly, to isolate which of the potential forces of change has greater explananatory capability, we carry out an exercise of breaking down the Theil index.
