Resumen
This paper reviews the main lines of discussion maintained by the economists on the effects that a higher or lower saving rate may have on a country's growth and posperity. It specifically analyses the controversy around the Turgot-Smith theorem and the law of Say which arose in the XIX century, the keynesian disequilibrium models between saving and investment and therole played by the so called "paradox of thrift" on the General Theory, it also points out the existing similarities and differences between last century's ideasand those related to the keynesian revolution.
