Abstract
The purpose of the present study is to review the research in the past ten years about: a) the selectivity, b) one-trial learning, c) resistance to extinction, d) irrationality, e) symbolic learning, and f) phylogenetic versus ontogenetic nature of the �prepared� fear conditioning in humans. The main conclusion is that, except for the higher resistance to extinction of the autonomic responses conditioned to fear-relevant stimuli, it does not seem that clear differences between the �prepared� and �non-prepared� fear conditioning have been found
