Zusammenfassung

Two experiments with human subjects were carried out in order to verify the role that contextual clues play in long term habituation, according to Wagners (1976, 1978) model. Experiment I, employing a 105 dbs. tone of sudden onset and 24 hours separation between sessions, showed that contextual change produced faster rehabituation and a trend to less response recovery in the second session. Experiment II, employing a 80 dbs., tone of gradual onset with 48 hours between sessions, showed that contextual change produced less response recovery and a trend to faster rehabituation. Informative vs normal instructions did not produce any effect on habituation. These results are considered as contrary to Wagners model (1976, 1978) and in accordance with an attentional interpretation of habituation
