Abstract
The study of the orienting (OR) and defensive responses (DR) has played an important role in psychophysiological research. Nevertheless, a great number of these studies defines the type of response acording to the stimular propieties. From a different viewpoint, in which the subjects role as receiver of the information becomes outstanding, the present paper develops a detailed analysis about the studies that have shown and researched individual differences in the orienting and/or defensive responses. These individual differences have been shown in the evoked OR, in the evoked DR, and in the presence of one or another response to the same stimuli. The latter are mainly revealed in the differences between subjects with and without a psychophysiological disorder, or between subjets with and without phobias
