Resumo

In this article we analyze the image Freud had of Nietzsche, and the indirect rol the philosopher played in Freud's life, work, and in the first psychoanalytic "Movement". Even though he always refused to read Nietzsche's work, Freud idealized him, identifying himself with the philosopher, yet, considering him, at the same time, a contender in the psychological understanding. This ambivalent attitude, both emotional and intellectual, was one of the most outstanding features of Freud. His ambivalence was projected in objects such as Philosophy, the philosopher, or his own friends and close collaborators.
