Abstract

As an addition to our book The archaeological beritage management in Spain (1996), this paper analyses the recently approved regulations on historical and cultural heritage of the Valencia and Madrid Communities (1998) and compares them with the regulations of other communities and specially with the Spanish Historical Heritage Act of 1985, After some general comments on the Acts, an emphasis is made on the regulationsforprotecting archaeological sites andfinds, not only those already known but also those whose existence is merely presumed. Tite comparison is also made on tite principal contributions of these new Acts, such as the Archaeological Reserve Areas in Valencia or the overtly declared intention for incorporating the local authorities in tite task of protecting, preserving and popularising the archaeological heritage.
