Resum

It is undeniable the importance that the study of prices has for the historical research, so it is necessary to face it, in an easy but effective and systematic way. In that sense Fernando Checa's article clarifies when we can use prices, salaries and index numbers as economic variables scientifically accepted, bringing near the methods used by some of the best historians such as Hamilton, Pierre Vilar and Gonzalo Anes. Having obtained the first materials of the economic quantification, he presents us in what situation and under what conditions, they are susceptible to be used, related, extrapolated, etc. Always taking into account the mutability of concepts, used through the time, it is necessary to pay attention to the behaviour of these categories in the secular tendencies, stationarys, cyclical and in the long waves
