Zusammenfassung

Transfer is a basic process in learning. It is commonly used since it represents the possibility of applying to a new context what was learnt in a previous one. In this way, learning is useful and productive because it can be applied to different situations without having to restart the process again. This article comprises the research about transfer accomplished throughout history and it presents new models and investigations. It also deals with the reasons why transfer does not take place and it points out the difficulties in its correct evaluation. Finally, it considers some principles of learning that optimise its occurrence in the classroom.
