Résumé

This work analyzes the commercial importance of market places and squares in the late Middle Ages. Although particular emphasis is given to inner trade, also the temporal and spatial evolution of commerce, specially in the kingdom of Castile, is assessed. As trading activity carried out in these centers spread to surrounding areas, it fostered the growth of social and economic hierarchies in towns and villages, which affected products, techniques, different levels of infrastructures, etcetera.
