Resumo

This article offers an initial approach to a new analytical instrument, that of "iconographic models". The various illustrated editions of Don Quijote published in the 17th and 18th centuries, as opposed to their successors in the ipth and 20th centuries, can be classified in a limited number of iconographic modell. In order to speak of such models one needs to identify an authorized and continuous artistic project, which can range from the reuse ofthe same printing plates to artistic reelaboration. In this first part, these concepts will he defined through the use of numerous reproductions; the second part will analyze the basic characteristics of the four iconographic models identified from among the more than 150 illustrated editions of the Quijote published during the 17th and 18th centuries.
