Abstract
This work concentrates on aspects related to methodological questions and theoretical lines in penal history and the influence of Michel Foucault in Spanish historiography, in particular. The predominant outlook has changed many themes in the last years and there has developed a new vision of crime, justice and violence. The paper is based on results from a doctoral thesis and other investigations in Spanish society during the XIXth century.
