Abstract

This a case of a 44 years old male with rheumatoid arthritis is presented. Assessment was made with the following instruments: clinical interview; repeated self- reports and Structured Interview, Inventory of Situations and Responses of Anxiety –ISRA–; Treedimensional Questionaire of Depression –CTD–; State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory 2 –STAXI 2–; The McGill Pain Questionnaire and Inventory of Suggestibility –IS–. Evaluation allowed us to conclude in a diagnosis of «Pain disorder associated with both psychological factors and a general medical condition», according to DSM-IV-TR criteria (APA, 2000). After the functional analysis of the problem, we established the therapeutic aims. Cognitive-behavioral treatment was carried out in order to control negative emotions and pain levels. Results showed that the treatment techniques used are effective to reduce negative emotions and pain perception levels.
