La magnetoencefalografíauna nueva herramienta para el estudio de los procesos cognitivos básicos

Resumen
La magnetoencefalografía es una técnica de neuroimagen funcional que permite describir los patrones espacio-temporales de la actividad cerebral relacionada con diferentes procesos cognitivos básicos. En este trabajo se describen los principales hallazgos en funciones como la memoria, el lenguaje, la percepción y las funciones ejecutivas conseguidos mediante el registro de los campos magnéticos cerebrales. Los estudios mediante magnetoencefalografía muestran que: (1) los efectos encontrados en las diferentes tareas ocurren siempre en determinadas ventanas temporales; (2) el tipo de procesamiento modula la activación de diferentes redes neuronales y, por tanto, la actividad cerebral no está completamente determinada por el tipo de material; (3) las medidas biomagnéticas y conductuales son complementarias en el estudio de la cognición humana. Se plantea una visión crítica sobre las técnicas de neuroimagen funcional y se propone una perspectiva tridimensional en las investigaciones cognitivas: tiempo, espacio y frecuencia como parámetros de estudio de las señales de la cognición.
