Abstract
In the year 1743, as a result of several complaints, the Crown opened a "pesquisa" against José de Araujo y Río, presindent of Quito's Audience. Most of them came from a group of power that have grow near the former president, Dionisio de Alcedo, and didn't accept to be displaced by the new one, who looked for other supporters. In this essay we analyse one of the charges against José de Araujo, the one that blames him of not fulfilling the laws about dice and cards games. At the end, in 1747, José de Araujo was absolved by the Consejo de Indias of all the charges imputed to him, even the one of allowing forbidden games at his own house.
