Abstract
The study of the main plautine passages allusive to the Oppian Law (Aul. 498- 536; Cpid. 222-235 and Poen. 210 sq.) allows us to stablish a correlation between the kind of woman alluded, matrona or meretrix, and the sort of adornment criticized, cultas ¿gold and purpure¿ or ornatus ¿bathing and cosmeties¿, respectively. This fact suggests the existence of two different discourses against feminine adornment in Latin commedy.
