Abstract

For this study to be completed there was a practice cytologic study for FNAC during three consecutive years, on 276 patients with head and neck tumors, of these 141 had visible biopsy, with apparently 41 technical mistakes, of those left 120 cases comparable between the cytological study and with biopsy. The objective of this study was to obtain results of the benefits and confidence of FNAC. Of the 120 studied cases there was a coincidence of malignance in 110 (91.66%), true positive cases (VP) = 53, true negative cases (VN) = 57, false positive (FP) = 1, false negative (FN) = 9. In those tumours exclusively found in the neck area, in the parotide gland, tumours of the scalp the diagnosis was certain for 100% of cases studied. Also tumours of the submaxillary gland the diagnosis was certain and the malignancy was 100%. Obtaining the specificity of the technique for the tumours of the head the index of 1.
