Abstract

The principal aim of this study was the spanish standarization of the Violence Risk Appraissal Guide –VRAG- (Harris, Rice y Quinsey, 1993) and the Self Appraissal Questionnaire –SAQ- (Loza, 1996) in a male adult spanish prision population. The results obtained with the instruments were positive and similar to those obtained in other countries. VRAG’s recidivism risk predictive accuracy was acceptable (ROC area = 0,74). Inter-rater reliability obtained a kappa agreement measure of 0,80 (p<0,001). SAQ’s reliability was high, alpha coefficient of 0,90. High subscales Pearson’ correlation coefficients were also observed, as well as a high kappa agreement measure in the reliability interrater. VRAG-SAQ intercorrelation was statistically significant (0,640). The results confirmed VRAG and SAQ’s psychometric properties as an accurate measure of recidivism risk and dangerousness, respectivelly, in male adult spanish prision population.
