Resumen
We examine words of French and Italian origin from Oliver Goldsmith's Vicar of Wakefield (766) because they constitute an important feature of Late Modern English. We analyse context, semantic field and frequency of appearance as they reflect XVIIIth-century attitudes towards those languages.
