Abstract

The Supreme Court has conferred work related accident status to the "Burnout" syndrome and lower levels have recognized the importance of its recognition towards an understanding of the dangerousness of certain jobs. A brief review of the principal findings with respect to its triggers, facilitators, consequences, assessment instruments and intervention strategies is presented. The proliferation of mental pathologies such as "burnout" in the work context contributes towards the need to modernize the gambit of professional illnesses, as well as towards the need to include psychologists in the prevention services prescribed by the "Prevention of Work Related Risks" law 31/1995, which regulates the control and prevention of professional illnesses and accidents.
