Abstract
The scholar interested in the 15th century study of the Castilian Kingdom often has the occasion to examine the growing role assumed by Madrid after the first-half of this century. Located in the centre of the Peninsula and, because of distance, well connected to other Castilian cities like Toledo, Segovia or Avila, Madrid appears better documented well before Felipe II chose it to carry out the role of capital of the Kingdom. All this was, in part, the result of members of the court nobility who, motivated by a desire to live near the central power, placed themselves in Madrid, conscious that the town was the appropriate place to satisfy their ambitions. This work is centered on the study of the Risas family, establish in Madrid at least since the era of Juan II. This family makes up one more of the ’Madridian’ lineages to which the author has already dedicated his attention in works previously published. The study reveals unknown facts about the family and its surrounding environs, and includes an appendix of documents.
